Portrait Photographer in Asheville: Celebrating Raw Beauty

Studio Portraits

The Session: Connection Over Perfection

Over the spring, I had the deepest honor of photographing an amazing musical artist and fellow photographer, Julianna.

This session was something special.

We started out with a few moments to connect and chat – I hate just jumping into portraits right off the bat! If you’re like me, the “other side” of the lens can feel intimidating. (Thoughts like, “what is that black hole staring at my face actually seeing? That giant pimple or my slightly larger left eye??”).

It’s so important to start off relaxed together. And Julianna was up for something new this session.

We were branching into a portrait experience dubbed “Raw Portraits.” For this session, she decided to show up makeup-less and comfortable.

Just her.

Perfect.

As we settled into the session together, it felt more like friends sitting down over tea. Un staged and unfiltered. We laughed over silly faces (I mean, this is one my favorite parts). And listened to memories from the past, and new hopes for the things to come.

She showed up. Completely herself. And man, am I ever so honored to be a witness to such a beautiful soul.

Soul Moments

In the Asheville studio, the simplicity of black and white captures those inner glimpses. There’s no distractions, no bright colors, no flashy patterns. It’s all about you.

Your experience, your expressions, your moments.

It’s allows for an authentic, nuanced glimpse we don’t get to see very often with our ultra-fancy social media filters.

It’s about creating quiet, thoughtful portraits that feel like journal entries. Julianna’s portraits reflect joy, complexity, reflection—the spectrum of a young life well lived. And well fought.

The Emotional Undertone

I can’t express the level of honor I feel when a client (usually also a new or soon-to-be-friend), allows me into their inner sanctum.

Raw, unedited, and authentic portraits open the door to a power we often reserve for our more tender moments or closest people.

But you know what? This space is for you. Your expression. Your experience. Your moment.

I felt deep gratitude to witness that journey.

Julianna braved a new world. And the best part? She gets to look back and remember this moment, this season of celebration and new life, every time she sees her images.

Why It Matters

In a world of filters and perfection, this kind of portraiture is quietly revolutionary. It’s about showing up as you are, knowing that you are already a work of art. You are enough. You are sufficient.

If you’re looking for a portrait photographer in Asheville who values depth over perfection and believes in the beauty of raw, unedited moments, let’s connect. Whether it’s minimalist studio portraits, black and white imagery, or the chance to explore your own narrative, I’m here to help you see yourself more clearly.

Your stories, your moments (you) matter.

Because sometimes, the truest image is the one with nothing added—and nothing taken away. Just you.
