Asheville Branding Photographer Shares Pro Tips for Success

Branding Photograhy

Hi friends,

Did you know that branding photography was something I accidentally stepped into? When I first started my studio, my goal was to be a Headshot Photographer for Asheville and Western North Carolina. I was going to be an awesome photographer, helping people feel comfortable and confident!

I had my own stellar headshot and I was ready to go! But then I started building a website, developing emails, creating social media posts, finding LinkedIn, creating brochures, and on and on. How on earth was I going to fill those pages with ONE headshot image? Maybe stock photos? But really, how many times can I use a coffee cup, a blue sky, and some smiley people in a conference room without looking fake, repetitive and distant?

The farther I got into headshot photography, the more I realized there is a whole other side to business photography that a lot of people don’t even think about, but really need (including me): Branding Photography.

“Branding” is most definitely a term most business owners will hear now. “Be on brand!” “What’s your brand?” “Be sure you’re clear on your brand!” But what you don’t hear as often is  to be “visually clear on your brand.”

What does that actually mean?  And why is it so important?

As I’m sure you’re aware, we are a visual society. Our brains register images in ways it doesn’t with just words (and especially just text!).

That’s why one of my favorite things to do is to help businesses Visually tell their brand – aka, their story and mission – to their ideal clients.

Why branding photography matters:

  • Creates trust and connection with your audience
  • Showcases your personality and professionalism
  • Supports a cohesive marketing presence

What you’ll learn in this blog:

  1. The difference between a headshot and a branding image
  2. How your photos communicate your unique brand story
  3. The power of consistency across platforms
  4. Tips on preparing for your session
  5. Why investing in a professional matters

Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn profile, revamping your website, or launching a new product, strong branding photography helps elevate your message and convert viewers into loyal clients.

Let’s break down the top five things you need to know about business branding images and why they matter so much.

1. Branding Photography is More Than Just a Headshot

A professional headshot is a great starting point, but branding photography dives deeper. It shows you in your element: working, interacting, creating, and leading. For entrepreneurs in Asheville or Hendersonville, these images communicate not only what you do, but how you do it.

Think of your branding images as your brand’s visual language—what people see, and how they feel and connect with you and your business, before they ever read a word.

2. Your Photos Should Tell a Story

Your branding session should reflect your core values, aesthetic, and audience. Are you warm and approachable? High-end and refined? Creative and quirky? These traits should be evident in the settings, wardrobe, lighting, and expressions captured during your shoot.

In Western North Carolina, we have the flexibility to shoot in-studio or at beautiful local businesses, coffee shops, or co-working spaces to create a setting that aligns with your brand.

3. Consistency is Key Across All Platforms

Your headshot on LinkedIn, profile pic on Instagram, and About page photo on your website should feel unified. This builds trust and creates recognition. A consistent visual identity makes you more memorable and helps your audience feel like they know you.

5. Investing in Professional Photography Pays Off

DIY photos can be a quick fix, but they often fall short when it comes to quality and impact. As a branding photographer, I understand how to light, pose, and direct you to bring out your best, most authentic self.

Your branding photos are often your first chance to make an impression. Investing in quality imagery tells clients that you value professionalism and are serious about your business.

It’s a leap, but one that can pay off. Who doesn’t want photos that work for you across all of your visual platforms while you sleep?

Asheville and Hendersonville area’s have their own unique personality and charm. As an (almost) full native, connecting your business to the heart and soul of your community is important to me.
